Singin’ the Brown Blues

26 May

MAC’s Club eyeshadow is not one that I find myself reaching for often.  Partly because it’s not as pigmented as I wish it were and partly because I find it hard to pair with other colors. Nonetheless, I thought I’d be brave and do a light-handed smoky eye look and play up its neutral brown hue.

Antique Bronze

23 May

I wore this look out on “date night’ with my fiancé last night.  His favorite eyeshadow color on me is purple, but he pretty much loves anything smoky.  I wanted to do a look that’s really popular on the runways this Fall — a brown shadow worn all around the eye with a natural lip.

NARS Mediteranee Eyeshadow Duo

19 May

I bought this eyeshadow a few years back and have used and lugged it around so much during my undergrad years that it kind of broke.  Luckily, there’s still plenty left, so I thought I’d bring it out of the woodwork and recreate the same look.  This shadow is available for purchase at online and in-store at Sephora and NARS (online only). The two colors in the duo are described as a

“muted gold shimmer & burnt orange shimmer”

, but they are extremely pigmented, so it’s imperative that you blend well.  A little of the orange color goes a long way, so use a small amount and build up until you’ve achieved the color intensity you want.  The orange color is far better than any of the MAC oranges in my opinion.  I know the price is a bit steep at $32.00 and I did purchase this duo a few years back when it was only $30.00, but your money will be well spent.  If you have never tried any NARS eyeshadow duos, give this one a try — you may not need any others!

Graphite Plum

17 May

I had a mini-reunion with some family members whom I haven’t seen in eight years and I wanted to look sophisticated.  I like this look because it’s not too over the top, but it does say “young, mature woman.”  The colors on my eyes are echoed in my blouse and although I try not too match my clothes to my make-up, I chose similar colors.  This look features MAC Sable and Kid eyeshadows.

Purple Parfait

16 May

Instead of the usual red-toned purples I usually opt for, I thought I’d try something new.  A great cooler-toned purple is MAC Parfait Amour eyeshadow — it made me feel like a sultry ice queen!
