Lala Land

28 May

Now that it’s almost summertime, I can whip out my bright eyeshadow colors and not feel embarrassed about wearing vibrant shades on my eyes!  I decided to play around a bit with MAC’s La la eyeshadow, but instead of pairing it with the expected pinks and purples, I chose up the “fun” factor by mixing it with  bright yellow gold, Gorgeous Gold, and an orangey-gold, Juiced.

NARS Mediteranee Eyeshadow Duo

19 May

I bought this eyeshadow a few years back and have used and lugged it around so much during my undergrad years that it kind of broke.  Luckily, there’s still plenty left, so I thought I’d bring it out of the woodwork and recreate the same look.  This shadow is available for purchase at online and in-store at Sephora and NARS (online only). The two colors in the duo are described as a

“muted gold shimmer & burnt orange shimmer”

, but they are extremely pigmented, so it’s imperative that you blend well.  A little of the orange color goes a long way, so use a small amount and build up until you’ve achieved the color intensity you want.  The orange color is far better than any of the MAC oranges in my opinion.  I know the price is a bit steep at $32.00 and I did purchase this duo a few years back when it was only $30.00, but your money will be well spent.  If you have never tried any NARS eyeshadow duos, give this one a try — you may not need any others!

Purple Parfait

16 May

Instead of the usual red-toned purples I usually opt for, I thought I’d try something new.  A great cooler-toned purple is MAC Parfait Amour eyeshadow — it made me feel like a sultry ice queen!

Beachy Keen

14 May

I love the look of pastels in the spring, but it is a bit of a challenge making them look sophisticated instead of childish.  Here is a fun, but not too bright blue-green, mermaid & beach-inspired look featuring Lucky Green and Steamy MAC eyeshadows:

Dramatically Brash & Bold

18 Jan

My goal was to do a “smoky hot pink” look, but what I got was a super dramatic purple smoky eye look instead.  My mistake?  Thinking that if I started out with a dark base, I could layer hot pink pigment over top to make it “pop” more.  This is the most dramatic look I’ve done, but my fiance and his cousin didn’t think it was “too crazy.”  Those guys might know a little something about overly dramatic make-up, so I’m sticking with their opinion.
